National Thermal Power Corporation-Ramagundam celebrated World Environment Day on Saturday with the pledge to ‘restore ecosystem’ in line with this year’s theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’.
Befitting the occasion, a mass tree plantation drive was carried out at Ambedkar Park of the township wherein employees participated enthusiastically and planted saplings to enrich the environment.
Speaking on the occasion, NTPC (Ramagundam and Telangana) Chief General Manager Sunil Kumar underlined the importance of restoring the ecosystem and added that NTPC was leading from the front both in power generation and plantation besides adopting new technologies to minimise the negative impact on environment.
Earlier, Sunil Kumar read out the message from the Director (Operations) of NTPC and formally launched the Green Challenge initiative to give impetus to plantations in the township. To start with, Sunil Kumar nominated Somla Bhukya, President of NEAR and Kandula Swamy, General Secretary of NTPC Mazdoor Union. Accordingly, each employee will pass-on the challenge to two more employees and they will plant the sampling at their residential units. Participants need to collect the fruit bearing saplings from the Horticulture department and upload the plantation photos.
Later, Sunil Kumar and Soumendra Das, GM (O&M) administered the environment pledge to all in English and Hindi respectively. Further, to stop the use of single-use plastic, jute bags were distributed.
K Ravidas, Environmental Engineer, TSPCB, Ramagundam Regional, all GMs, head of departments, DROs and office bearers of unions and associations were present on the occasion. To further create awareness on ecosystem restoration, online competitions like essay writing, poster and slogan and family quiz are planned for employees and children of NTPC and CISF.
