New Delhi: Ahead of the rollout of the open access regulations in Uttar Pradesh by the state electricity regulatory commission, minister for industrial development Satish Mahana has agreed to the industry’s request for rationalization of additional surcharge and wheeling charge as well as other non-tariff related challenges, according to a statement issued by Indian Energy Exchange (IEX).

“Agreeing to industry’s request for rationalization of additional surcharge and distribution wheeling charge as well as other non-tariff related challenges to open access, the minister advised for a joint meeting led by FICCI representatives to discuss the challenges confronted by the industry in availing open access and identification of a win-win solution,” IEX said in a statement.

Mahana was among the participants in a webinar on “Challenges in Sourcing Cheaper Electricity for industries in Uttar Pradesh” organised by IEX and industry chamber FICCI.

IEX said industries in Uttar Pradesh will immensely benefit through lower prices of electricity leveraging open access and this will also help to lower the manufacturing cost and contribute to overall growth in the state.

Open Access through power exchanges can be availed by the industrial and commercial consumers above 1 MW for sourcing competitively priced electricity and power could be procured directly from power generators, traders, or through power exchange.
