Two miners were feared killed when they were trapped under the debris of a parapet wall that collapsed on them in the Kakatiya 6 coal mine of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) at Bhupalpally here on Wednesday.

According to the officials, K Narsaiah (51) and S Shankaraiah (53), who were working as supportmen, had gone into the underground mine to attend the second shift duty around 2 pm. But officials received information that they were trapped under the debris when the parapet wall collapsed on them while they were fixing props at a weak portion of the roof of the mining cave.
In an attempt to rescue the victims, a ten-member team of SCCL rescuers including manager Tagore Singh, and safety officer Pandey got into the mine.

Meanwhile, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao expressed grief over the feared death of the two SCCL workers.

According to a press release here, the Minister immediately spoke to the authorities concerned and enquired about the circumstances that led to the incident. He also instructed them to take appropriate remedial action. He expressed deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and said the government will take care of the kin of the victims.

The Minister also directed the SCCL authorities to take appropriate precautions so that such incidents do not recur in future. SCCL authorities, however, are yet to confirm the death of the miners.
