Tuticorin port sets coal unloading record

TUTICORIN: V O Chidambaranar Port Trust set a new record by unloading 56,687 tonne of coal in 24 hours on Tuesday.

This surpasses the earlier record of unloading 55,785 tonne of coal on June 19 this year from M V Myrsini.

On Tuesday, coal was unloaded from Hong Kong’s flagged Panamax class vessel M V Ocean Dream.

Ocean Dream reached the Tuticorin Port from the Adang Bay Port in Indonesia, with 77,535 tonne of coal. It was consigned for India Coke and Power Private Limited.

It was berthed at Berth No 9. Unloading began with three harbour mobile cranes operated by Imcola Crane Company in Tuticorin.

Chairman of the port trust T K Ramachandran said the port is striving hard to achieve improvement in performance and productivity to attract more volume of traffic.
