A worker was trapped under debris following a landslide at a coal mine in the Korba district of Chhattisgarh, the police said.
The incident occurred at Kusmunda’s open-cast South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) coal mine when employees were pumping rainwater out of the mining area, a police officer said.
Thanks to constant rainfall, a part of the earth broke loose and fell into the mine, he said.
Suresh Mahant (25), a contract worker, was stuck under rubble.
Rescue surgery was still underway, but the odds of his survival were slim, the official said.
