Mahagenco to install 602 MW of solar power plants

Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (Mahagenco) will set up solar power plants with a total capacity of 602 MW at various locations, said State Energy Minister Nitin Raut.

Such projects will be built under a three-stage engineering , procurement and commissioning (EPC) contract on land owned by Mahagenco, the Minister said in a statement.

In the first stage, solar plants with a total capacity of 187 MW will be constructed in Kaudgaon, Latur, Bhusawal, Koradi, Parli and Nashik and Sakri thermal power stations, he said.

A proposal for the same will be submitted as soon as possible for approval by the state cabinet, Raut said.
In the second stage, solar plants with a total capacity of 390 MW will be installed in the Washim, Yavatmal and Chandrapur districts, while in the third stage, another 25 MW plant will be built in Sakri, he said.

According to the Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Solar Park Scheme, solar parks with a total capacity of 2,500 MW will be built in Maharashtra through the Joint Venture Company (JVC) of NTPC and Mahagenco, the Minister said.

Solar projects will be developed by individual companies according to their share of the JVC, he added.
