Ranchi, August 29: Labour and employment minister of Jharkhand Satyanand Bhokta demanded 90 percent job for local in collieries running in Chatra and gave Central Coalfields Limited ultimatum to fulfill its commitment to villagers.
The development took place on Thursday at Chatra after the minister convinced followers of Mahatma Gandhi, Tana Bhagat, to end their 10-day old strike which had held up supply of coal to government owned power companies for the last 10 days causing loss in tune of crores.
Bhokta said people in Tandwa were hopeful about getting jobs after colliery became operational here but this did not happen and it caused resentment among the villagers taking their collieries running on their ancestral land. “Only 10 percent should be outsiders in the companies. Company management have already made promises to this effect,” he said.
Earlier before convincing the Tana Bhagats to end their strike, Bhokta made it clear that a list of those villagers will be prepared who did not get job and compensation in lieu of their land and the work will be done by a five member committee headed by Simaria SDO.
He also talked in the interest of transporters saying any company delaying payment of outstanding due to transporters will not be allowed to work. “Over Rs 45 crore of transporters are lying with companies operational in Tandwa area,” he said.
Talking in the interest of labourers, he said: “In two lakh out of 14 lakh tonne of coals lifted from colliery is lifted by labourers a big number of jobs will be generated and displaced will be able to get their source of livelihood.”
Promising continuous power supply in the locality the minister said: “Within three months Chorkari power grid will be operational and it will help supply round the clock power in urban areas of Chatra and 20 hours power in rural areas.”
