– Death from Corona to be categorized as fatal mine accident
– Without notice, long time absentees won’t get the benefit

Dhanbad, August 15: Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi, during his visit to Ranchi, had announced that Coal India has stamped its approval on the scheme under which its employees will receive ₹15 lakh ex-gratia on succumbing to Covid-19. The Board of Directors of Coal India gave its approval later on in its meeting held on 4th August. Under this, Coal India employees will get ₹ 15 lakh ex-gratia on death after 24 March 2020 due to Covid-19. This amount will also be given to regular employees of Coal India and its subsidiaries along all the contract workers.

Benefits for Non-executives:

Certain conditions have also been implemented pertaining to ex-gratia amount. This amount will be given only to the non-executive employees. It will be categorized as a fatal accident, which will be certified by DGMS.

If the contractor pays ₹15 lakh to the employee, then they will be reimbursed by the concerned subsidiary company. Those employees and contract workers who have been absent without permission for a long time will not be entitled for this scheme.

Fatal accident declaration to be done by DGMS:

The DGMS will recognize the death from Covid-19 as a fatal mine accident. Other statutory dues of contract workers will also be paid along with ex-gratia amount. Coal India has issued a notification in this regard on Friday.
