The implementation of energy efficiency schemes has led to savings of approximately 90,000 crores in the FY19, according to official estimates. Such estimates are based on the study entitled Energy Efficiency Impact Measures 2018-2019 by PWC Limited, which was engaged by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).

This study estimates that various energy efficiency initiatives have resulted in savings worth 89,122 crore (approximately) compared to last year's (2017-2018) savings of 53,627 crore. Such efforts have also led to the elimination of 151,74 million tons ( MT) of CO2 emissions, compared to 108 MT of CO2 emissions last year.

Releasing data through a video conference, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh, said: "In COP-21, we pledged to reduce the energy intensity of the economy by 33 to 35 % compared to 2005 rates by 2030. Now, with our energy efficiency initiatives, we have already reduced our economy's energy intensity by 20% compared to 2005 levels, which is indeed a very good performance.

The results of the study show that the introduction of the schemes resulted in gross electricity savings of approximately 113.16 billion units in 2018-2019, which is 9.39 percent of net electricity consumption. Energy savings (electrical + thermal) in the energy-consuming sector (or the Demand Side sector) are at 16.54 Mtoe (million ton of oil equivalent), which is 2.84 percent of the net total energy consumption (approximately 581.60 Mtoe) in 2018-2019, according to an official statement.
