The Public Enterprise Selection Board did not recommend a nominee for president of the Coal India subsidiary, Mahanadi Coalfields, after interviewing five candidates on Tuesday, all from different sister companies.

The Board is the official head hunter for key positions in public sector companies and periodically conducts interviews to recommend candidates to all public bodies.

In the event that no one is recommended for a post, the decision to fill a post rests with the center to follow the correct path, but the selection process is delayed by a couple of months.

Bhola Nath Shukla, the current president, took over the reins of Mahanadi Coalfields in June of last year and is scheduled to retire in October.

Prior to taking over the senior position at Mahanadi Coalfields, Shukla was Technical Director of Coal Resources Development at the sister organization of the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute – the Coal India Discovery and Planning Division. He also worked as Chief Technical Officer for Eastern Coalfields.

The applicants were two technical directors and two directors of staff from four Coal India subsidiaries, namely Mahanadi Coalfields and a general manager from one of the subsidiaries.
