Another COVID hospital having 100 beds along with 20 ICU beds will come up at Bandhabahal in Jharsuguda district in association with Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), informed the district administration on Tuesday.
Jharsuguda Collector, in a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary (Health), informed about the creation of another COVID Hospital at Bandhabahal in the district.
At present, a 220-bed COVID Hospital including 20 ICU beds is operating at Jharsuguda. Of the 220 beds, 160 beds are being filled up as oxygen pipeline laying work is continuing in some unoccupied portion of the Hospital.
The District Administration said that in view of the situation and intensity of the epidemic, the requirement may surpass the capacity of 220 bedded hospital. Besides, space in 20 bedded ICU also always remains occupied.
Jharsuguda District Administration had taken up the matter with MCL authorities for funding with regard to the management of another 100-bed hospital with 20 ICU beds.
A newly constructed hospital building of MCL at Bandhabahal is being used as a COVID Care Centre/COVID Health Centre of 50 beds. The same could be scaled up to a designated COVID Hospital with 100 beds in general wards and 20 ICU beds.
The MCL authorities will bear the cost of institution-building and operation. However, they are in a quandary with regard to management. Therefore, the district administration has urged the Health Department to rope in a private hospital for the functioning of the hospital.
