LUCKNOW: Voicing concern over alleged irregularities in generation of electricity bills in UP, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday urged the state government to act against those responsible for it and demanded that the rate of electricity for farmers should be halved immediately. She demanded that relief should be given to weavers, artisans and small-scale industries in electricity consumption.

In a statement, she said there was a “terror” of rising electricity bills and meters in UP. Stating that people were facing difficulties due to rising electricity bills and faulty meters, Priyanka said, “UP has become a testing laboratory for meters which are found to be running fast.”

She said people were hit hard by pandemic and inflation and they were not in a condition to bear the brunt of erratic bills.

“Power tariffs for common people should be brought down and bills of farmers should be halved. Weavers, artisans and small-scale industries should also get concessions. An inquiry should be ordered into faulty meters,” she said.
