Vijayawada: The state government is planning to introduce an energy conservation policy to promote the use of new energy conservation and energy-efficiency technologies in various sectors. The move is to help achieve energy security, cost-effective power and strengthen the power sector.
The energy department plans to take the views of experts, state-level universities and central government agencies like Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and prominent institutes such as The Energy Resources Institute (TERI), Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) and Alliance for Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) to formulate the policy.
An official statement here on Sunday said the government is considering energy efficiency as a cost-effective way to reduce energy costs, moderate growth of energy demand and eliminate energy wastage.
Industries, realty, municipal, agriculture, transport, power utilities, commercial and residential sectors will be the major areas of implementation.
According to a BEE report 2018-19, India ranks highest in terms of growth rate of energy consumption in the world. The country’s energy consumption is expected to grow fastest among global economies and account for 11% of global energy demand by 2040.
