Dhanbad, August 27: Coal India limited (CIL) released its ranking score of its subsidiary companies for the financial year 2018-19 on Tuesday. In the score, BCCL ranked the lowest. However, it has risen one rank in comparison to the financial year 2017-18. The company was ranked Fair in 2017-18, which is the lowest rank. Despite being in profit, the company had to be satisfied with a Good ranking. Among the eight companies, BCCL was the only company with the lowest rank in the ranking. Although the company remained profitable, its performance was not perfect in other cases. The resolution related to the MOU score and rating for the financial year 2018-19 was passed in the 408 and 409 board meeting of Coal India. The notification was then issued with the signature of the company’s general manager RM Wanare. According to the notification issued, only NCL among all the subsidiaries of Coal India had performed well. After that the performance of CCL, ECL, WCL, SECL, MCL and CMPDI was very good while BCCL performed well with a score of 68.93. In its previous fiscal year 2017-18, the company ranked one step Fair which was below than Good.

What will be the Effect?

The falling down of the company’s ranking affects the company’s image in the eyes of Coal India and same with the Ministry of Coal. The effect of obtaining a good rating is on the PRP payment of the BCCL officials. There will be a reduction in performance related pay received by the officials. The company will have to improve its performance in the next financial year, only then the company will reduce the pressure on itself and will receive an increase in the amount of assistance from CIL.

This is how the ranking is fixed

To determine the ranking of any company, five to six categories are decided. In this, production, dispatch, quality of coal, safety, CSA and Profit/loss are seen. The company made a profit in the financial year 2018-19. Despite this, it could not come up from Good to Very Good due to its decline in CSAAR, Safety and Quality. From the year 2015 to 2017, the Ministry of Coal had MoU with all the subsidiary units of Coal India. The Ministry used to decide the ranking of companies. But after 17, there was another MoU between the Ministry of Coal and Coal India. Coal India had an Mou with its subsidiaries, according to which, each company is audited after the end of the financial year. The audit report is kept in the meeting of the Board of Coal India. Rank is decided on its basis.
