Ranchi, August 14: There may be a delay in opening of a Medical College in Ranchi by Central Coalfields Ltd. (CCL), because the company has sought 12.5 acres of land from the state government to open a medical college in the capital for free.

Two years ago, the cabinet gave them 12.5 acres of non-permanent land in Kadma, Kanke for ₹ 24.29 crore on a 30-year lease; Now it has demanded the settlement for free. CCL Director Personnel has written a letter to the Health Department in this regard. However, the Health Department has separated itself by saying that it’s not them, but the land and revenue department which has the right of free endowment, so it’s them whom they should request to.

Health Department said- Government will run ECL hospital

Citing the event of Eastern Coalfields Ltd. (ECL) getting 30 acres of land free of cost to build a 300-bed hospital in Mahagama, CCL has asked for the same favour, to which the Health Department has said that the land given to ECL belonged to the Department of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture has transferred it free of charge. Therefore, it is clear that this transfer took place between two departments of the state government.

The Health Department has also said that while the state government will run ECL’s hospital, CCL will run its own medical college. It is to be noted that the land given to CCL belonged to Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry & Allied Sciences (RINPAS). RINPAS owns 40.5 acres of land in Kadma village, for which CCL has to pay ₹24.29 crore to the state government. CCL has been granted a 12.5-acre land in Kadma, Kanke, on 30 years lease by the cabinet 2 years ago.
