The production target for 2020-21 revised to 650-660 MT from 710 MT by CIL

Kolkata, August 9: State-run Coal India Ltd has revised its output target to 650-660 million tonnes for the current fiscal year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic disruptions, a top company official said. 

The company had previously set an output target of 710 million tonnes for fiscal year 2020-21. “COVID-19 pandemic has impacted demand for coal. But demand has begun to pick up now as the industries have begun operations.

“Given the situation, we are hopeful to end the year with 650-660 million tonnes of production,” Coal India Chairman Pramod Agrawal said at a webinar organised by Bharat Chamber of Commerce.

The miner witnessed an rise in demand of 7-8 percent in August, he said. Last year, the Maharatna PSU had produced 602 million tons of coal against a goal of 630 million tonnes.
