In the much-needed relief of the handloom sector in times of loss due to the coronavirus crisis, the UP government will grant discounts to power weavers consumed in their units. The scheme will apply with a retrospective effect from 1 January 2020. According to the Textile and Handloom Department, weavers will receive a discount of Rs 3.5 per unit in different categories.
The department will bear the costs. In an order dated July 17, the additional Chief Secretary, Textile and Handloom, Rama Raman said that small weavers with 0.5 horsepower carding machines would receive a rebate of Rs 3.5 up to 120 units.

Likewise, those with 1 HP machine would receive discounts of up to 240 units. Both categories are covered by LMV-2 (non-domestic loads of up to 5 Kw) and LMV-6 (small and medium loads of between 5 Kw and 75 Kw).
