Coal India’s unions called for a strike on 18 August to protest private competition.
Last week, they witnessed a three-day strike, which executives said led to a revenue loss of around Rs 400 crore.
A business executive said that revenue dropped 39% during the strike. The company was unable to sell 2,6 million tons worth at least Rs 400 crore.
The Unions called for the next strike on 18 August, the last date for the submission of bids for commercial coal mining.
D D Ramanandan, President of the All India Coal Workers Federation affiliated to the Center of Indian Trade Unions affiliated to CITU, said workers’ representatives should appeal to citizens and panchayats not to give up their land to private parties.
“We will ensure no private players are allowed entry in any of the blocks on offer. Unions have also decided to call strikes on every important date with respect to commercial mining as the government did not accept our demands. Our protests will continue,” he said.
