The state-owned coal mining giant has made a successful foray into the generation of green energy by commissioning two 5 MW solar power plants each at the Singareni Thermal Power Plant (STPP) in the Mandarin district of Jaipur earlier this year. SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar has developed an ambitious plan to drive the company to reach 300 MW of solar power generation capacity by setting up solar power plants at various locations in the State’s coal belt region.
The project is primarily aimed at increasing the power generation capacity of the State and also addressing the electricity needs of some of its coal mines.
Two solar power plants are coming up in the first phase of Yellandu and Manuguru in the district. Research on the 30 MW plant in Manuguru is quickly approaching completion.
A 39-MW solar power plant is being built on a 200-acre site in Yellandu, considered to be the birthplace of Singareni Collieries.
Work on installation of solar panels in large areas of the SCCL lands in Yellandu has been delayed due to the forced lockdown of coronavirus, sources said. The SCCL authorities have re-focused on accelerating solar panel work in the post-locking cycle in order to make the solar power plant soon operational.
The 30 MW solar power plant in Manuguru is likely to be synchronized with the grid within one month, SCCL added.
The solar power generation project of SCCL envisages the establishment of two 37 MW and 23 MW solar power plants near Kothagudem City and Garimellapadu in Chunchupallimandal in the second and third phases respectively.
